Join us Saturday August 12 @ 7 PM to celebrate the launch of Rita Wong’s new book of poems titled Current, Climate.
In her seventh book of poems, Rita Wong introduces readers to environmental and social justice poetry. Centring around the geography of the Indigenous unceded land, otherwise known as British Columbia, Wong explores the invasion and imposition of foreign words that have settled onto this place through outrage, linguistic inventiveness and humour. For Wong, poetry and political activism are intertwined and it’s through the establishment of an “economy of care and solidarity” that we will be able to address the climate crisis and systemic inequities. The evening will also be joined by editor Nicholas Bradley and his thoughts on the role of the author during a time of crisis and how does Wong’s poetry situate itself in its literary and cultural context.
