Drawing from examples in the recently published title from AK Press, Why Don't The Poor Rise Up?, this talk will examine contemporary anti-capitalist organizing efforts from around the world. The emphasis will be on organizational work, from Kali Akuno's Cooperation Jackson, to David Gomez Vazquez' look into the Territory of the Community Police in Guerrero, to the radical cross-hemisphere shout of "Idle No More: Grounding the Corrientes of Hemispheric Resistencia" by Praba Pilar and Alex Wilson.

Copies of the book will be available at the event:

*Accessibility*

Entrance: Camas Books is accessible at street level, with a 1 inch ramp smoothing over the door sill. The door opens outward and is non-automatic. Let us know if you will need assistance with the door.

Washroom: The single-stall washroom, although on 1 level with the shop, is NOT wheelchair accessible. There is an accessible washroom across the street at Fairway.

Scent: This is a low-scent space so please avoid wearing scents. Here is a great resource on how to do so: http://www.peggymunson.com/mcs/fragrancefree.html.

Smoking: If leaving to smoke, please move well away from the doorway to avoid carrying in cigarette smoke when doors open and take 5 minutes to air off clothing before coming back inside.

Lighting: The shop has fluorescent overhead lighting as well as a couple small lamps.

Seating: There are several arm chairs, a couch, a padded swivel office chair, and padded folding chairs available.

Kids are very welcome!: We have a children’s play area for younger kids as well as games and books for older children.

Please let us know if you have any accessibility needs. We are happy to work with you to make events accessible for you!
