The aim of this class is to provide a safe and inclusive space forum where all teens are open to speak their thoughts and feelings about sex, gender and sexuality in a non-judgmental way.
The healthy sexuality class is modeled on the definition provided by the world health organization
Sexual health is a state of physical, emotional, mental and social well-being in relation to sexuality; it is not merely the absence of disease, dysfunction or infirmity. Sexual health requires a positive and respectful approach to sexuality and sexual relationships, as well as the possibility of having pleasurable and safe sexual experiences, free of coercion, discrimination and violence. For sexual health to be attained and maintained, the sexual rights of all persons must be respected, protected and fulfilled.
As most sex classes focus purely on anatomical health this class will focus predominantly on the mental and emotional elements of sexuality promoting the idea that sex is natural, healthy and a pleasurable experience that virtually every person on earth will engage in at some point in their lives. It is our hope that this workshop will help teens make those experiences respectful, positive and empowering not shameful, condemning and abusive.
The format of this class will be a youth led dialogue on ways to empower themselves to have a healthy sex life throughout their lives. As such much of the subject matter will revolve around sex and sex related issues. For this reason all participants must have parental permission to attend this workshop. If you have questions or concerns please contact Matt at mrc@uvic.ca.
I hereby give permission for my child ________________ to attend the Healthy Sexuality Workshop.
